Your keys stay on your machine
Last updated October 7, 2026
TerminalX is a local-first desktop app. The privacy story is short on purpose: there is no account to create, no usage data to collect, and no cloud copy of your credentials.
The short version
TerminalX is built offline-first. The desktop app has no account, no telemetry and no cloud vault. Your hosts, keys, snippets and session logs live in an encrypted vault on your own machine. We cannot see, recover or decrypt them.
What the desktop app does
- Connects only to the servers you tell it to connect to, using the credentials you entered.
- Stores everything in a local vault encrypted at rest with Argon2id and XChaCha20-Poly1305, unlocked by your master password.
- Sends no usage data, no analytics and no crash reports. The only request the app makes on its own is the license check: your key goes to our license service on first activation and then once a week, and nothing about you or your usage does.
- Fetches a small update manifest from terminalx.sh to tell you when a newer version exists. That request carries nothing about you or your usage.
What the website collects
- The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard, short-lived request logs for security and abuse prevention.
- The pricing section asks our launch API how many licenses remain. That request contains no personal data.
- Your theme choice (light or dark) is stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing else is stored, and there are no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Web fonts (Inter and JetBrains Mono) are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers.
Buying a license
Checkout is handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar collects the payment details and your email address; we receive your email and order status so we can send your license key and support you. We never see your card number.
Emails are transactional: your license key, your download link, refunds and replies to support requests. There is no marketing list, and we do not sell or share your email with anyone beyond Polar.
Your rights and choices
- You can request deletion of your purchase records by emailing [email protected]. We will delete everything we can without breaking accounting or tax obligations.
- You can use the app completely offline. Nothing is required from our servers after the initial download.
- Because your vault is local and encrypted with a key only you know, we cannot export, recover or delete its contents for you — that is the point.
